The Cherokee County School Board convened a budget workshop on April 20 and approved the meeting agenda by unanimous voice vote. Finance staff told members the workshop is intended to allow review and questions before the May 11 first reading of the proposed FY27 budget.
Finance director Mr. Pettit told the board the budget is "not yet balanced" and described the district's 0-based budgeting process, which required departments to rejustify every line and provided the basis for this year's proposal. Superintendent Dr. Fitzpatrick told trustees the goal of the session was to show options that could limit or avoid a millage increase while considering a 2–3% cost-of-living adjustment for employees.
Mr. Pettit said the final budget will be balanced at the June final reading and that the district is working with a consultant to confirm fund-balance projections and state revenue estimates. Board members requested additional detail ahead of the first reading, including coaching supplement lists and comparisons of coach supplements year over year; Mr. Pettit committed to provide those materials prior to the May meeting.
