Board approves FY27 capital projects; discusses softball-field fixes, storage buildings and energy contract timing
Summary
The board voted unanimously to approve the FY27 capital projects package, discussed timing that made a larger bond issue possible for an energy-performance contract, and pressed administration about a $100,000 softball-field remediation and $120,000 band-storage buildings.

Administration presented the capital-project budget as part of a five-year plan and advised the board that HVAC replacements and large-ticket items will be executed under an upcoming Schneider Electric energy-performance contract after an audit this fall. Finance presenter Mr. Pettit said timing allowed issuance of a larger bond this year; the capital package includes a miscellaneous capital contingency of about $792,154.24 for in-year needs.
Board members questioned a $100,000 expenditure to correct omissions on recently completed Gaffney softball fields and asked about a $120,000 metal storage building intended for competition props and large band pieces. Operations and administration explained the storage is to replace an overused trailer arrangement and to centralize equipment. The board approved the capital projects list by voice vote.
"None of this will cover HVAC replacements. The HVAC replacements are gonna be rolled into the energy performance contract," Mr. Pettit said during the presentation.
