Santiam Canyon board appoints and swears in two new members
Summary
After interviewing five applicants, the Santiam Canyon SD 129J board appointed Melissa Allison (Zone 1, Position 4) and Carl Anderson (Zone 2, Position 1). Both were sworn in during the Sept. 10 regular meeting.
The Santiam Canyon School Board moved to fill two open seats during its Sept. 10 regular meeting. Elizabeth Reeser moved to appoint Melissa Allison to Zone 1, Position 4; Lynda Harrington seconded and the motion passed 3-0. Later, Lynda Harrington moved to appoint Carl Anderson to Zone 2, Position 1; Reeser seconded and the motion passed 3-0.
Superintendent Krista Nieraeth swore in Allison and Anderson immediately after the votes, and both joined the meeting as board members. Applicants interviewed for the vacancies included Betty Komp, Jonathan DeRenzo and Leah Chapin in addition to Allison and Anderson. The board had followed District Policy BBE and filled Zone 1 first because all applicants were from that zone.
