The North Merrick Union Free School District board opened a public hearing on a proposed update to its code of conduct that would bar motorized bikes from district property. Agency official (speaker 2) told the board the revision is meant to address a recurring dirt-bike problem and said parents will be notified in January after the winter break.
"Code of conduct is being revised to prohibit motorized bikes from our property," the speaker said at the meeting, noting the change is aimed at student safety and that families will receive communications after the break. Board members indicated copies of the proposed amendment were available at the meeting and that the board would take a formal vote on the change later during the action-items portion of the agenda.
The proposal was introduced during the public hearing and will be decided as part of tonight’s regular agenda. The transcript referenced the code section as "section 513-1r" (as read aloud at the hearing); the board had no public comments on the item prior to moving to the vote.
