District leaders told the board that a Sept. 30 community forum and a follow-up parent survey generated robust feedback on proposed restrictions for student cell-phone use.
The district has posted aggregated feedback and, at the time of the meeting, reported 155 parent responses submitted within hours. "All the feedback will go directly to the board of education," a district official told trustees and said staff would provide unfiltered, real-time viewing access for board members. Staff emphasized that policy authority rests with the board and outlined next steps: deploy staff and student surveys, aggregate the forum responses and present a recommended policy path based on the evidence.
Speakers said the forum included divergent views: some parents strongly support a full ban, while other participants raised safety and mental-health reasons to preserve limited access. The board was told the district will route all feedback to trustees and expects to bring a policy recommendation forward after the additional surveys and analysis are complete.
