Principal reports 98.61% August attendance; district evaluates new ELA options

On curriculum, Jenny said the district's Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 'Journeys' subscription for elementary ELA is expiring and that administrators and teachers are reviewing replacement options. "Had a teacher recommend Amplify CKLA," she said. The district is also considering assessment tools for middle and high school, including CommonLit and OptiRead Basics, to identify students who need targeted interventions.
Jenny outlined a revamp of the teacher assistance process into a Student Assistance Team (SAT) that will meet the first and third Wednesday mornings to review data and propose interventions, and noted upcoming events including a school-improvement launch on Oct. 14 and kindergarten–6 book-raising activities beginning Sept. 29. Board members asked whether outside vendors or state resources could aid training on new social-studies materials; the board said it would explore using an October in‑service day for training and possibly invite a state resource.
