Gary Kalish, Greenport High School principal, presented a "Greenport Middle School Concept" at the joint Greenport and Oysterponds Board work session on Dec. 19, 2023, proposing that sixth-grade students follow the secondary (middle/high school) schedule. The presentation, delivered to members of both districts, ran from 6:27 to 6:59 P.M.
Kalish framed the proposal as a scheduling change intended to align sixth graders with secondary classes and routines; the meeting minutes record the concept as part of an overview that also covered curriculum and student support services. The boards did not record a formal vote or decision on the proposal during the session.
