Oxford Academy & Central School District trustees on Jan. 6 approved a resolution to merge the district’s football program with Greene Central School District for the 2025–26 season.
Athletic director Tim Davis briefed the board on logistics for a combined program, saying practices, games and events would be held at both schools with shared transportation and coaches "most likely consist[ing] of a head coach and assistants from each school." Superintendent Nicholas A. Colosi told the board the district survey showed 64.9% of Oxford respondents favored an 11‑man merged team and that 11 of 12 prior football players indicated they would support a merger. Under Section IV rules, Colosi said, the merged team would be classified as Class D for the coming season based on the enrollment formula.
The board approved Resolution G16 by a unanimous recorded vote of Yes‑5, No‑0. Visitor Mitch Cluff used the public‑comment period to urge caution, saying both schools could be competitive with 8‑man teams; trustees discussed program stability, injury and forfeiture risk reductions, and cited previous successful mergers with Greene in wrestling, bowling and track as precedent.
The merger approval authorizes administrators to move forward with the next steps of planning; no additional budgetary appropriation for the merge was specified in the discussion. The board will likely address uniforms, transportation schedules and coaching assignments as planning continues.
