High School Principal Jonathan Cooley told the board the school will implement a backpack-and-locker policy beginning in January to "reduce the weight of items students carry daily," keep aisles clear and lower the possibility of possession or distribution of contraband. Cooley said he has met with student government representatives, will include details in his December newsletter and expects the policy rollout in January.
Cooley also said staff are demoing a digital hall-pass system, Securly Pass, with a goal of training teachers and beginning student use Dec. 13. The principal mentioned related items — budget requisitions, additional special-education support with a new teacher aide, a mental-health presentation by Dr. O'Reilly and a teen-health first-aid trainer working with students — as background to operational changes at the high school.
