Planning commission says comprehensive plan is early-stage; public input and action steps coming

Chairperson Greer told attendees that the planning commission is in a data-collection phase for Onancock's comprehensive plan and that the document is intended to be a policy guide with clear action steps. "As you know, we're working on a comprehensive plan for the town, and we're in what I would call a data collection process," Greer said, asking participants to help shape the plan with observations and local knowledge.

Greer said the planning commission expects the town council to approve the final plan and that the commission will solicit public comments when draft sections are posted. She also noted that the comprehensive plan should be concise and that supporting demographic data and maps can be placed in appendices. Commissioners noted a statutory review cadence and said the commission will need to be mindful of timing as it prepares action items that could be implemented or forwarded to town council for approval.
