LaSalle County staff opened bids for the county's planned 4-pipe hydronic-system conversion and found all submitted offers above the project's revised cost estimate.
"This is the bid opening for the 4 pipe hydronic system conversion project," a county staff member said as bids were read into the record. Staff listed four bidders and base bids: Commercial Mechanical Inc., $1,697,000.01; Helm Mechanical, $2,028,268; JB Contracting Corp., $1,674,209.01; and John Service and Sales, $1,825,507.
The same staff member said the "estimated cost revised after the 3rd chiller was added to the project was $1,300,000," meaning every bid exceeds that figure. The staff member told the committee they will analyze the bids and report back with a recommendation at the county's Aug. 28 meeting.
Why it matters: the gap between the bids and the revised estimate will affect whether the county scales the project, adjusts scope, or funds the difference from next year's budget. The staff summary noted the project is planned in two phases, starting this year with work stretching into next year for commissioning.
Next steps: staff will study bid details and return with a recommendation at the Aug. 28 meeting; no contract award was made during this session.
