Hunter board approves additional $100,000 loan to Hunter Highlands pollution-control project

Supervisor Sean Mahoney briefed the board on the Hunter Highlands pollution-control project, reporting the town previously loaned the project $100,000 and that roughly $80,000 of that amount had already been spent. He said town staff expect the money to be recovered but that continued interim payments are required to keep the project moving.

An audit showed the treatment system needs substantial repairs, and the town is pursuing a fast-track conversion of the facility into a pump station to connect to the Village of Hunter sewage-treatment facility to avoid major repairs. Mahoney said the conversion would be challenging because the new connection must cross a recently replaced bridge. The board voted to loan an additional $100,000 from the General Fund MM Savings; the motion, made by Councilperson David Kukle and seconded by Councilperson Raymond Legg, carried unanimously.
