Traffic commission approves crash investigation and speed study for County A at State Highway 89

The Walworth County Traffic Safety Commission voted July 22 to request a crash investigation and a speed study for the intersection of County A and State Highway 89.

Committee members described a growing crash history at the curved segment and argued additional data and an engineering crash review are needed before considering major changes. One commissioner summarized the problem as an alignment and increasing traffic issue, urging a formal study to identify remedies. "I would make that motion to do what Eric just said," said a committee member who moved the study; another member seconded the motion, and the chair called for a voice vote that carried.

The motion requests both a focused crash investigation and speed data collection to determine whether engineering actions, signage changes or other countermeasures are warranted. Commissioners noted the curve may require real estate or alignment work if engineering changes are needed, making a careful study an important first step.

The commission did not adopt any specific engineering solution at the meeting; the approved study is intended to produce recommendations for future action. Staff indicated results and follow-up recommendations will be presented to the commission once the studies are completed.
