Federal grant uncertainty could affect about 10% of district budget, staff say

Staff member (S2) told the budget committee that nearly 10% of the district's budget is federal in origin (flowing through the state) and that court actions and federal appropriations uncertainty put those funds at risk. "Close to 10% of our budget is federal dollars," S2 said, and staff noted 23.5 FTE could be implicated if federal flows halted.
Because of the uncertainty, the district is budgeting conservatively (a 5% reduction in many special-revenue line items) and planning to hold a reserve to buy time for deliberation if federal dollars are reduced. Staff outlined options including a supplemental budget if significant changes occur after June 30.
