Milton-Freewater Unified SD 7 board approves supplemental budget adjustments

The Milton-Freewater Unified SD 7 board voted unanimously to approve supplemental budget adjustments during a special meeting. Chair (S2) called the vote after staff presented details on changes across the general fund, special revenue funds and the capital projects fund.

Denise, a district staff member who presented the package, said the district proposes increasing the general fund appropriations to add more spending for instruction (teaching and learning) and support services including counseling, utilities and transportation. She cited property-tax revenue increases, an uptick in state basic school support and the beginning fund balance as the main revenue drivers. Denise also described an increase in transfers to the capital projects fund.

The presentation covered special revenue funds, which Denise said will increase in total by about $100,000 because of state carryover dollars for Measure 98, the School Improvement Grant (SIA) and early literacy grants; she said federal ESSER funds are not included because there was no carryover. On the capital side, Denise said the district will increase the transfer in from the general fund and raise the facility acquisition appropriation by the same amount, noting a $300,000 transfer for the primary capital project fund.

Chair (S2) asked whether the resolutions needed separate motions; staff said they could be handled together or separately. After brief discussion, the chair called the vote and said, "Okay, motion passes unanimously," closing the supplemental budget portion of the meeting.
