An external consultant presented the district's five-year strategic plan and the board moved to approve it after discussion of implementation and monitoring. Consultant Dr. Jutta/Gail Butler described the document as "the road map for the next 5 years of the district," saying it will guide finance, equipment, buildings and academic decision-making.
The plan collapses previously larger pillar sets into four priorities — supporting successful students; empowered and valued staff; strong family and community partnerships; and modern, safe facilities — and uses an annual scorecard to prioritize goals each year. The presenter said the plan was formed through internal and external focus groups and emphasized that the document is intended to be agile: "If something, for example, COVID in 2020 happens and we need to shift and pivot to something else, then we certainly have the ability to do that because we annualize the goals of the plan." Board members asked how the scorecard will be used; staff committed to sharing data and progress updates regularly with the board.
The board voted to approve the strategic plan as presented. Staff said operational steps include communicating the plan across district buildings, producing an annualized one-page scorecard, and prioritizing a limited set of goals each year to ensure focus and feasibility.
