Superintendent reports potential 250-student drop over summer

The Randolph County Schools superintendent told the board the district is "potentially on track to have lost around 250 kids over the summer," a decline the superintendent said is about 50 fewer than the previous four years combined.
The superintendent said the district will finalize counts in October and that secretaries are still catching up on enrollments, transfers and new registrations. A staff member added the district has over 400 students coded for the Hope Scholarship and more than 200 students coded as homeschooling, which together account for over 600 students recorded in those categories; others may have enrolled in charter schools or moved out of state.
Board members were told staff will run day-1, day-2 and day-5 counts and will share the data with directors and the superintendent so the district can track enrollment trends more precisely.
