Blue Door Academy portal demo shows fixes underway after parents report glitches

Boys & Girls Clubs representatives demonstrated the Blue Door Academy parent portal during the Aug. 10 Wauwatosa board meeting and acknowledged the live system had glitches that frustrated families.

Jeff Snell, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, said the organization has "deployed top talent" to the effort but admitted "the registration process...is clunky" and that the national team in Atlanta was working on fixes. A staff demonstrator (identified on the record as Jen) walked trustees through a registration flow that requires account creation, email authorization and multiple system emails under the current version — steps presenters said the new release will reduce from four emails to about two to complete membership and enrollment. Presenters also said waivers and certain COVID-era virtual‑program language were removed to address parent concerns about online instruction and device use.

Board members and parents asked whether the district would publish a clear technical contact on the district website and whether a fallback registration option exists; presenters said contact information for head managers and district liaisons was already being circulated and that a backup enrollment system is available if the portal fails. "So if anyone is listening right now and hasn't signed up yet, save $50 and register today," a presenter said while noting the fee waiver was being used briefly to encourage early signups. District staff said they will follow up with an additional email to families and post clear contact information on the district website to reduce confusion the first week the system goes live.
