Water staff report Levin Copper Rule work and chloramine conversion underway

Water department staff reported operational activity and regulatory work at the water plant, telling the board the team of eight has spent substantial time completing data entry to comply with the Levin Copper Rule deadline of Oct. 16 and is overseeing a chloramine disinfectant conversion project. “The team of 8 has spent a large amount of their time doing data entry to meet the Levin Copper Rule deadline of October 16. And they're also overseeing the active chloramine disinfectant conversion project happening at the water plant,” a water department representative said.

Staff reported the plant ran 1,317 hours during the period, averaging about 14 hours per day and treating roughly 60,000,000 gallons of raw water; approximately 48,000,000 gallons were purchased from Kansas City because one well was out of service. The report also listed operational work: roughly 9,400 tests performed, eight water main breaks repaired, and 27 meters replaced; staff noted ongoing projects to convert disinfectants and complete master planning work.
