Commission urges more masonry, tree preservation and screening on proposed Hiseley auto site

During the preliminary site-plan review for the proposed Firestone Complete Auto Care Center on Hiseley Road, commissioners and planning staff flagged multiple design and site concerns and asked the applicant to return with revisions at final plan. Applicant design representatives said the plan shows "33 stalls" and that their parking calculation uses vehicular repair ratios; Mike from the engineering team said "the 33 parking stalls we show code compliance" under the vehicular repair classification.

Staff and commissioners emphasized masonry at the base of metal-panel buildings, shielding rooftop equipment and limiting tree clearing. Kathy from administration asked the applicant to "touch on, the tree clearing that we mentioned... to limit the amount of tree clearing that's done on-site there," and commissioners said the south elevation facing Hiseley Road should be "dressed up" so the public-facing side is not a blank wall. The commission approved the preliminary plan with conditions and asked the applicant to address these items at final review.
