Dr. Yanni opened the workshop with a superintendent's report highlighting recent district events and student achievements. He reviewed spring honor society ceremonies across K–12, an "engineering breakfast" that brought local engineers and alumni to speak with students, and the American Mathematics Competition and photography recognitions. "Tonight, it gives me great pleasure and you'll see on the agenda," he said as he previewed items the board would be asked to accept.
Dr. Yanni singled out a district student for a regional photography award, saying the 10th grader Myla Yurter from Oyster Bay High School won first place from a pool of submissions. He described the event lineup and thanked staff and volunteers for bringing the community together, noting that such programs give students perspective on life after graduation.
