Select Board votes to join Windham County regional sheriff pilot

Select Board members voted to join the Windham County Regional Enforcement Governance Council, endorsing a state-approved pilot that seeks to regionalize sheriff services. Chair introduced the recommendation saying the pilot is the product of several years of work by Mark Anderson, the county sheriff, and asked the board to participate in the governance council.

When asked about cost, the chair said the change "is not gonna cost us any more than our current contract," and explained participation primarily provides a governance role and a path to regional contracts that include state support. Board members raised questions about staffing, contract execution and how existing policing hours and coverage would map to a regional approach; after discussion the board voted in favor by voice vote to join the pilot and to designate a representative to the council.
