The district math presenter reviewed current curricula—Big Ideas Math and Amplify—and said the supplementary programs (including IXL) help align students to state test formats. The presenter described a plan to add a math intervention period and tiered supports for students who need intensive instruction and to develop K–12 alignment so language, pedagogy and scope/sequence are consistent across grades.
Concern was expressed that a large share of students are in Level 1 on state math measures; staff plan to use interim screeners throughout the year and to expand professional development so teachers can collaborate more on pedagogy. The presenter emphasized the difficulty of staffing in a small district when some specialty classes have only fractional FTEs and said more collaboration and targeted PD are priorities for the coming year.
