Vernonia hires new business manager; Special Education director search delayed pending timber revenue

Superintendent Darla Waite-Larkin told the Vernonia School District Board on July 9 that Pam Voss has been hired as the district's new business manager and "she starts Monday, July 13." Waite-Larkin said the district is finalizing the transition and that Marie Knight will assist as needed during the handover.
Waite-Larkin also recommended delaying hiring a Special Education director until the district receives fourth-quarter timber revenue, which she said is expected in August and has been running low across the state. Board member Alicia Mahoney voiced disappointment at the prospect of delaying the hire, saying the community felt services had been dropped last year and urging the district to proceed when feasible.
The superintendent highlighted summer programming and nutrition services during her report: "Summer Learning going well with 65 students registered," and "The kids are loving the items and were excited about the chocolate milk," reflecting positive uptake of the free summer meals program. The board did not take a formal vote on the Special Education position at this meeting; Waite-Larkin said hiring would be revisited after timber revenue arrives.
