Council approves resolution to amend master fee schedule for solid waste and utilities

Council considered item 4A and voted to adopt a resolution amending the master fee schedule for solid waste and utilities after a presentation by Wendy Badgett and a consultant review by Jason Gray. Badgett said refuse rate changes reflect passing along Republic Services' contractual CPI increase and gave residents a sense of the dollar impact: "these changes in fees represent a 3.5% increase to residential customers, equating to about 78¢ per month for residents with 1 poly cart," she said.

After questions from council clarifying that the base service includes trash and recycling (and that additional carts would incur an additional fee), Councilmember Britton moved to approve the schedule changes and Mr. Fassett seconded. The mayor called the vote and the item carried unanimously. Council and staff noted that the proposed changes are included in the FY 2027 budget documents and that detailed cost‑of‑service information from wholesale partners will be provided during the follow‑up budget discussions and public hearings.
