Board weighs banning e‑bikes and e‑scooters on campus, emphasizing communication and enforcement

The board opened a detailed discussion on protecting district fields and courts from misuse by community members and the safety risks created by e‑bikes and e‑scooters. The chair proposed a policy that would prohibit riding these devices on campus while allowing individuals to bring them onto campus if they dismount and secure them in a designated area. "I would put forth that we would, you know, prohibit the utilization of it on campus, not an outright ban from the campus, because there are some students that probably rely on them to get to school," the chair said.

Board members emphasized a communications‑first approach: targeted alerts in backpacks, ParentSquare messages, Instagram and signs to give the community time to adapt, followed by warnings and then stricter enforcement. One trustee argued for more active enforcement and clearer guidance for roving monitors or security staff: "We have to actually start enforcing this stuff stricter," the board member said, noting that passive signage alone often fails as a deterrent. Dr. Lutinski said the district will discuss coordination with the village police chief and consider adjustments to security staffing as a ramp toward full implementation.
