Greystone outlines reliability, resiliency and undergrounding pilot for Chattahoochee Hills

Greystone Power engineers told Chattahoochee Hills council the utility is focusing on data-driven investments to reduce outage frequency and duration across the city’s four distribution feeders.

Seth Mitchell, vice president of engineering, said vegetation outside rights-of-way accounted for about 44% of outages and that equipment faults — though a smaller share of events — contributed a disproportionately large share of outage duration. He described the utility’s CAMP (Centralized Automation Modernization Program) which will provide fault detection and self-healing automation, and an undergrounding pilot on two circuits to test benefits and cost.

Mitchell also noted the company’s recent work installing a broadband backbone (Greystone Connect) that required planned outages during construction but also enables remote monitoring. He encouraged residents experiencing frequent blinks or outages to report those incidents so the utility can investigate power quality at the meter level.

Greystone presented a reliability snapshot for the city showing roughly one interruption per customer per year on normal days (major event days excluded) and said asset-management and targeted upgrades can reduce duration when faults occur. The utility also reported large vegetation removals last year and an expectation of continued tree-related work as part of routine maintenance.
