Eden presenters say 'Peace Bus' has cut bus misconduct and rewards student leaders

The Eden Central School District Board heard a presentation on the Peace Bus, a national program the district adapted to improve behavior on school buses and to support bus drivers.
Mrs. Carter, Lauren LaRosa and Mrs. Banco described ambassadors—teacher aides, counseling staff and bus-duty teachers—who ride assigned routes three times a year to review safety and conduct and to help students learn their drivers. "The ultimate goal for this is the kids to go to breakfast at the end of the year in May with their driver," Banco said, describing an end-of-year incentive tied to the visits. LaRosa added that ambassadors introduce drivers to students, review safety procedures and lead an upbeat "Peace Bus Chant."
Presenters said the program also includes a monthly "golden bus" recognition revealed during character assemblies; the driver receives a trophy for the bus dashboard and the whole bus gets a cheer. Board members praised the program's positive tone, and presenters said discipline referrals that historically came from bus incidents have declined since the program began.
