The Jamesville-DeWitt Education Foundation has held its organizational meeting and incorporated, and leaders told the board they are applying for an EIN and preparing forms for 501(c)(3) status.
"They're now incorporated through New York State. They're applying for their employee identification number, their EIN... and then the IRS forms for the 501(c)(3)," the superintendent said, thanking a staff member for leadership on the effort. Foundation volunteers plan to pursue scholarships, mini grants and broader community outreach.
Board members asked for clarity on governance, how the foundation will remain independent of district control and whether existing scholarship committees would be absorbed or operate in parallel. The superintendent said the foundation would likely operate in parallel and that the board would review all aspects before the foundation becomes fully operational.
