Courtney Mentley, a school counselor and administrative intern, presented the district's draft school counseling plan and described the program's mission to deliver "holistic educational experiences" that support academic, career and social-emotional development.
Mentley said the plan follows Commissioner of Education Regulation 100.2(j), which requires a comprehensive guidance program, and explained the continuums of service for elementary, middle and high school levels. "Looking at our mission statement, to deliver holistic educational experiences that foster economic social social emotional development for every student in empowering them to thrive in a rapidly changing world," Mentley said in presenting the plan's mission and domains.
She outlined next steps: creating an annual program outcomes report to present to the board and forming an advisory council of school counselors to coordinate continuity of services across buildings. Mentley emphasized collaboration with counselors, social workers and psychologists and cited existing child abuse prevention materials and partnerships used in the district's curriculum. The board offered thanks and asked no substantive changes during the meeting.
