Student Lucy Heffernan honored for multi-year food drive that yielded 1,234 pounds this year

The Eden Central School District board on Dec. 15 publicly recognized student Lucy Heffernan for sustained community service, saying she collected 1,234 pounds of food for the North Collins Food Pantry this year and more than 3,500 pounds over five years.
Bill McDonough introduced Heffernan and read a certificate praising her "outstanding contributions, your commitment, and hard work that have made a significant impact" on the school and the community. Heffernan, a student at Eden Middle–High, told the board she began the effort in eighth grade and said, "I think it's important to always give back." The board thanked her and her family for their work and congratulated her on behalf of the district.
