The chair opened a public hearing on the Cherokee County School Board of Trustees' proposed 2026–27 general fund budget and announced the hearing would run until 6:00 p.m., inviting staff, faculty, taxpayers and visitors to ask questions about the proposal. "We now call to order the Cherokee County School Board of Trustees, public hearing for the general fund budget," the chair said as the meeting began.
A staff member told attendees that a copy of the full budget was not available online but that slides could be pulled up for those in attendance. The chair identified district finance staff — "Mister Pettit, our finance director," and "Doctor Fitzpatrick" — as the people who could answer technical questions about revenue and expenditures.
