Superintendent proposes draft allowing students to participate in conflicting curricular and extracurricular events

Superintendent Fitzpatrick introduced a draft procedure to guide cases where students have conflicting curricular and extracurricular commitments.
He said the draft would allow students to participate in both activities without penalty and asked principals and coaches to coordinate schedules. "What you have in front of you, are the draft of dual participation expectations... students should be able to participate in curricular or extracurricular activities, even if they conflict periodically with time," Fitzpatrick said.
Fitzpatrick said he will distribute the draft to principals for feedback and then take it to the policy committee for further development. Trustees asked whether it would replace the current policy and were told the draft is more inclusive and spelled out in greater detail.
