The Cherokee County School Board approved an innovative course application to add a two-semester Intro to U.S. History elective beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
Presenters said the course was developed in response to high-school principals' requests to give students who struggle academically more time and foundational skills prior to the full U.S. History course. The presenter described the elective as focused on foundational knowledge, historical vocabulary, and evidence-based writing aligned to state college-and-career readiness standards. Trustees confirmed the course is elective and will not carry an end-of-course test. The board moved and voted unanimously to approve the course so it may be implemented in the fall.
