Board unanimously approves $109.2 million FY27 general fund budget

The Cherokee County School Board unanimously approved the second and final reading of the FY27 general fund budget on June 8, 2026.
Administration explained changes since the first reading, including accounting reclassifications and moving certain 4K CERDP salaries out of the general fund. The presenter said several entries were reclassified (utilities, trash collection) and that moving CERDP-funded 4K teacher salaries freed roughly $500,000 from the general fund. "We were able to move the CERDP salaries for 4 k teachers into that fund outside of general fund," the finance presenter said. Trustees also heard that recommended total expenditures for the fund are $109,191,599 and that the administration proposed a fund-balance supplement to balance the budget. Board members asked about staffing contingencies if enrollment rises; the presenter said state funding adjustments linked to the 35th-day enrollment can support adding FTEs as needed.
After questions and brief discussion about salaries and comparative pay for assistant principals and principals, a motion to approve the budget passed with a unanimous vote. The board chair declared the budget approved and the administration will proceed with implementation and the stated monitoring steps in the budget documents.
