Library District highlights summer programs, seeks poet‑laureate applicants

Megan Mullen, Financial Administrative Services Manager for the Library District, provided the commission with a month‑end report, saying she was standing in for County Librarian Jennifer Wicks and listing several summer programs and upcoming events. “My name is Megan Mullen. I am the stand in for Jennifer Wicks, our county librarian,” she told commissioners and then highlighted an author talk scheduled for Aug. 17 and ongoing summer‑reading events that have drawn strong attendance.

Mullen gave program metrics and outreach results, noting special events including a petting zoo and a portable planetarium that attracted hundreds of attendees. She said the library served about 1,100 meals in June and reported roughly 43,000 checkouts and about 19,000 visitors for that month; she also said the Mary Blair exhibition—installed with help from the historical society and the Walt Disney Museum—will remain on display through the end of September. Mullen asked commissioners to publicize a call for Poet Laureate applications and said she would share application totals after responses are collected.
