Historic Preservation Commission finalizes Draper Days walking-tour stops and logistics

The Draper Historic Preservation Commission spent the bulk of its June 17 meeting detailing plans for a Draper Days walking tour that will feature interior and exterior stops at several historic properties. Commissioners agreed to meet at the historic park at 5:30 p.m. and break into stations for a July 14 tour scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., with stops that include the Sorensen House, Walter J. Green home, the Park School and the Draper Theatre.

Chair (speaker 3) said the commission will use large easel photos and printed maps to guide visitors, and recommended linking maps to online walking-tour videos with QR codes so people can access history content on their phones. "If you'll pick up signs, let me know, if you need help putting them out, just shoot me a text," the Chair said during the planning discussion. Committee members volunteered to staff stops and to coordinate permission for interior access where owners have agreed.

Commissioners discussed logistics for route signage and display cases at the Park School and suggested pulling photos from the historical society's archive for display. They also weighed whether to list private residences on the public map and agreed to use photos and pointing-out of homes instead of placing private addresses on printed maps. The commission recorded action items to collect signs from Angie, confirm interior permissions, and prepare easels and maps ahead of the tour.
