County engineer reports paving progress, Kettle Creek safety widening planned

Clay Phillips, the county engineer, told commissioners the county paving crew finished work in the Camp Winnetowska area and has moved to Show Creek and Journey's Inn, then will proceed to Old Coast City and Watzville in District 1. He said a separate crew is building an access pass for a Wool Creek debris‑removal contractor and that when rain prevents that work the crew has been working on Kettle Creek Road.

Phillips described a safety‑widening project on Kettle Creek Road and said the plan calls for 2‑foot paved shoulders and rolling strips as countermeasures against lane departures. "Those will be paid shoulders, 2 feet wide. And they'll have some, rolling strips on them also," he said. The project is in planning and Phillips estimated substantial work could extend into September, with the road left in place by Sept. 30.

Commissioners also heard that driveway pipe crews have been active on Keller Creek Road and that the county will coordinate noncontract items to ready projects for completion. The engineer said he will provide project lists and timing to the commission ahead of the Tuesday meeting.

Next steps: staff will bring detailed project schedules, costs and any needed budget amendments to the commission meeting for formal consideration.
