Presenter pitches geothermal and solar upgrade for Scott County courthouse

A presenter told the Scott County board at its June 9 meeting that two energy‑upgrade options are available for the courthouse: a courthouse-only geothermal system and a larger project adding solar arrays that would capture federal IRA incentives.

The presenter said the courthouse-only package was roughly $2,180,000 as discussed with the board and that the larger package would be higher but offset by federal incentives. "We have a very rare situation here where you gotta work with guaranteed energy savings... this IRA period right now, probably in our lifetime, probably not gonna happen again," the presenter said. Board members asked technical and procurement questions and were told a formal RFP and bid process would be required before any vendor selection. The chair noted the commissioners would be responsible for vendor selection and that funding decisions would come back to the board after a vendor is chosen.

The presenter supplied a financial summary in handouts and said an IRA benefit figure of $733,800 factored into the larger package. Commissioners asked staff to provide updated numbers and to reschedule a follow-up meeting after the county commissions finalize figures. The vendor offered to return with further financial detail and a financial adviser to explain payment and progress-payment options.
