Transit presenter asks Scott County for $6,000 match to expand Scottsburg service

Roland Lemus, speaking to the Scott County Board of Commissioners, outlined a proposal to provide a limited, city-focused transit service for Scottsburg under the federal/state 53311 rural grant framework and asked the county for a $6,000 local match.

Lemus described the proposed service as largely the same operational model the transit agency uses now but limited to city limits, with dedicated vehicles and Monday-through-Friday drivers. He emphasized the fare structure as an outreach point: "it's $2 each way for anything under 10 miles," noting that fares are heavily subsidized and that a $6,000 county match could be multiplied roughly 2.5 times by grant funding to cover operational subsidies.

Commissioners asked about turnaround times and booking practices; Lemus said demand scheduling typically requires about three days' notice during busy periods, and staff work with riders to find alternatives. After discussion about marketing and coverage, the board approved a motion to provide the requested local match contingent on available accounts.

Lemus said the transit provider will return with additional performance numbers in September and welcomed feedback and reporting of unserved areas to improve routing and outreach.
