Board members and staff spent substantial time on preliminary drawings for a proposed athletic complex east of the school, discussing where running lanes, throws, bleachers and parking could fit on the available parcels.
Scott and other staff emphasized the plans are an early concept. Scott said the drawings show possible vehicle access between the track and bleachers and noted multiple adjacent property owners must be engaged. He cautioned that removing the existing bus barn and related concrete work "could be as much as a $500,000," a figure referenced during the presentation. The board also discussed elevation changes, that not all field events could be accommodated on a single footprint, and the need to coordinate with the state activities association for event guidelines.
Members raised questions about parking capacity (estimates ranged from about 90 to as many as 220 spots depending on configuration), scheduling overlap for track events and whether the district could repurpose existing indoor spaces before considering an addition. Staff said topography and boundary surveys from predesign will inform next design steps and that the district will continue to evaluate options before any construction decision.
