Superintendent reports facilities work, enrollment study; board readies 1% sales tax referendum

Superintendent Dr. Whitmarsh thanked staff for summer work preparing schools and listed maintenance projects completed over the break, including track resurfacing, gym-floor work, roof replacements and camera upgrades. He said the division contracted Wolpert to complete an enrollment and student-yield analysis related to new housing and will present results at the next meeting.

Dr. Whitmarsh reported the board previously passed a resolution asking the Board of Supervisors to put a 1% sales tax referendum on the November ballot; he said a judge has approved the action and the clerk will take the necessary steps for it to appear on the ballot. A board member later explained the proposal would raise up to an estimated $3.4 million a year for capital projects, last 20 years, exclude groceries/essentials/prescriptions and help unlock state matching funds.
