The Liberty School District board adopted the district’s 2627 fiscal-year budget on a unanimous vote, authorizing a $12,749,120 general-fund expenditure amount and approving budget capacity across five funds.
Amy (Presenter) explained the general-fund number during the public hearing, saying the adoption gives the district the legal ability to spend that amount if needed. "That is up about 700,000 from last year's expenditure amount," Amy said, attributing the increase to two additional teacher positions and anticipated out-of-district special-education costs.
The adopted package includes a capital projects fund budget that assumes a $6,000,000 placeholder for a potential small-district modernization grant, a transportation vehicle fund budget structured to end at zero balance to preserve spending capacity, a debt-service fund sized to meet bond payments, and an ASB spending capacity of about $71,945. Amy noted the board’s policy minimum fund balance was raised from 9% to 12%, which she calculated at roughly $1,381,543.
Board Chair moved to approve the resolution adopting the 2627 budget, and after a second the motion passed with an "Aye" vote. The board also approved contingency and reserve plans that include a $500,000 contingency line recommended by the ESD to allow rapid response to unexpected enrollment changes without a budget extension.
The next procedural step is the district’s regular session where the resolution will be recorded and the new fiscal year preparations will continue.
