The Newark Central School District Board of Education opened its organizational meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the administration of oaths to newly elected members.
"I, Russell Harris, do solemnly swear that I will support the constitution of The United States and the constitution of New York, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of president of the Newark Central School Board of Education according to the best of my ability," Russell Harris said after the board approved his election as president for the 2026–27 school year. The board moved to approve Harris’s presidency with a motion first moved by Katie and seconded by Miranda; members responded "Aye" and the motion carried.
The board also administered the oath to Stephen Dorenzo, who was sworn in as vice president, and to student board member Abigail Wells, who will serve for the 2026–27 year. "I, Abigail Wells, do solemnly swear that I will support the constitution of The United States and the constitution of the state of New York and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of student board member for the year of 2026 through 2027," Wells said.
The officer elections were the principal business of the meeting’s opening, after which President Harris assumed control of the agenda and continued routine organizational votes.
