Deputy Superintendent Maureen Raynor opened the required public hearing on the proposed 2627 district-wide school safety plan, saying the plan reflects planning focused on "prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation of a variety of emergencies." Raynor described the district's standard response protocol and listed drills the district practices: "Hold," secure/lockout, "a lockdown," evacuation to an alternate location and shelter in place.
Raynor said this year's plan was updated to reflect recent legislative and regulatory changes, noting specifically enhancements to emergency drill practice, annual staff training requirements and the addition of a cardiac emergency response plan as required by state law. The proposed district-wide plan will be posted on the district website for a required 30-day public comment period; the board plans to consider adoption before a September 1 deadline and to submit the plan to the New York State Education Department before an October 1 deadline.
