Superintendent Dr. Yanni reported that final accounting for the districts 21st-century capital project generated an additional $190,000 in savings and recommended using those funds, within the scope of the bond project, to build a terrazzo-style terraces and steps for spectators near the high-school turf. He told the board, "it is my recommendation that we move forward with the construction of a beautiful new terrazzo similar to the one that is in the front of the school," and said the work would create a comfortable, dedicated viewing area for families.
Board members asked whether the $190,000 is restricted because it originated in the bond and whether the district could instead return the funds to taxpayers over 15 years. The superintendent explained the $190,000 comes from borrowing that was not spent and that money "can only be used if it fits within the scope of the work." During a tax-impact exchange, the superintendent estimated spreading the savings over a 15-year repayment could equate to roughly a $12,000 reduction on a $2.2 million debt-service illustration, though members asked for clearer math and formal motions before final approval. The board discussed whether to proceed with approval to move forward with project design within the bond scope.
