Commission approves Motorola service renewal, crash-reconstruction software and IT security subscription

The Lapeer County Board of Commissioners approved several procurement motions from the properties committee, clearing vendor commitments the board said were funded within existing budgets.

The board authorized central dispatch to proceed with Motorola Solutions on a five-year service renewal (Contract USC 000030558) at a stated total cost of $114,141 to be paid annually from account 261325813000, with no additional charge to the county general fund. Commissioners moved and supported the contract in committee and the motion passed on voice vote.

Separately, the board authorized the sheriff's office to buy two licenses of a proprietary crash-reconstruction software suite at a total cost of $21,598. The director explained that Metamora Township Police Department committed to pay 50% under a letter of understanding, leaving the county share "not to exceed $10,799" to be paid from the sheriff's budget. Commissioner McMahon said the software automates crash reconstruction, reducing site-clear times from "2 to 2.5 hours" for major accidents and improving evidence quality for court use.

IT also received board approval to purchase a three-year subscription to SOPHAS MDR security and anti-virus software for servers, workstations and firewall protection at a cost of $87,796.17 to be paid from budget line 631228977010. The properties committee and IT staff framed these purchases as replacements or upgrades rather than new general-fund obligations.

All motions were moved, supported and passed at the meeting; commissioners noted these items had been vetted at the committee level earlier and discussed funding sources during the meeting.
