Rec center project back on a revised schedule; small net change orders reported

Bob Beanstrom, who updated the council on construction of the indoor recreation and aquatic center, said exterior work is largely complete and interior trades are focusing on mechanical and electrical systems. He reported the competition pool is "pretty well constructed" and work is beginning on the recreation pool; the track upper-level slab is poured but the floor still needs finishing.

Beanstrom said the contractor Stahl has pulled schedule back and the city is now "anticipating the turnover will be that 3rd week of July" next year. He summarized two recent change orders: one increased the contract by about $18–19,000 and another reduced it by about $12,000, leaving a net change of roughly $6–7,000 for the month. Beanstrom also noted the project-management committee's delegated change-order authority was increased from $200,000 to $300,000 previously, and the committee had about $84,000 of that delegated authority remaining.

Asked by councilors, Beanstrom said change orders are slowing as the project moves indoors and are mostly coordination or owner-request items rather than major design modifications. "The changes have kinda settled in where we're probably gonna have 1 or 2 a month for the next while," he said. Staff invited questions but reported that, at present, the project is not in danger of exceeding the committee-authorized change threshold.
