Superintendent: Parsons near completion; district projects will make elementary schools accessible

Doctor Wolf delivered a construction and facilities update to the Harrison Central School District Board of Education on Aug. 11, saying major projects are progressing across the district. "School is just about completed now, including the art room renovation," Doctor Wolf said, describing progress at Parsons School and other sites.

The superintendent outlined specific work at several campuses: Parsons School is near completion, including an art-room renovation and the addition of air conditioning for a previously unconditioned space; at Harrison Avenue School the foundation has been poured and demolition finished and the new elevator shaft for gym access has been prepared; at Preston the foundation is poured and steel work is expected soon; and Purchase Elementary’s exterior is nearly enclosed with preliminary cafeteria work visible. "By the end of this cycle, all of our elementary schools will be fully handicapped accessible," Doctor Wolf said, describing elevator work at multiple sites.

Board members were told that district maintenance and custodial staff have been conducting upgrades districtwide, and that professional development and summer programs (including Bridges to Literacy and a summer-school graduation) have been under way. The superintendent said the projects that remain will continue in the coming weeks, including scheduled installation of elevator equipment and follow-up work tied to upcoming contract awards for a fitness center at Harrison High School.
