Town delays planning bond for Town Hall/Highway complex after board debate

Consultants Greta Hansen and Jason Priesner updated the Town Board on refinements to the Town Hall and Highway Complex design on June 9, 2026. They said the overall program footprint had been reduced from about 17,000 square feet to roughly 15,000 square feet, with a building footprint around 6,500 square feet and the program arranged across basement, ground-floor and attic levels.

Supervisor Sean Mahoney introduced a planning bond resolution concept to pay schematic-design, design-development and engineering fees prior to issuing a full capital bond; he said amounts borrowed under a planning bond would be reimbursable through a later capital bond but not eligible for reimbursement if paid directly from existing town funds. Councilman Ernest Reale strongly opposed further borrowing before the project had been fully presented to taxpayers and said about $100,000 in ARPA funds had already been spent without a public vote. Board members said they planned a robust public outreach campaign but agreed it was prudent to await a school-board meeting (scheduled the following week) that could materially affect project cost estimates. The board tabled any motion on the planning bond and asked staff to circulate updated plans to members in advance of a special meeting for further discussion.

Next steps: staff will provide updated plans to board members and the board will consider a special meeting after the school-board outcome is known. No planning bond was authorized at this meeting.
